While waiting to be connected with this hotel, the call waiting mentioned its location to be in “a leafy city” and this proved itself to be true as I arrived to have afternoon tea in a location nestled between trees and suburbs while being only 15 minutes from the city centre.

The Clyde Court prizes itself to be a four star hotel and the interior reflected this with a classic style design accented with a modern twist. The staff were approachable and welcoming upon arrival and led me to the bar/ restaurant area offering a glass of prosecco as I waited for the tea. I would describe the afternoon tea presentation as simplistic yet elegant. The scones placed on the top tier of stand and were warm and clearly homemade they were accompanied by clotted cream, strawberry jam and a mixed berry coulis.

The sandwiches were more inventive than I’ve previously experienced from afternoon teas. One example of this was a chicken and lettuce sandwich on soft white bread; the intriguing element of this snack was a layer of crisp crumbs found between the other fillings. This conjured an unusual yet balanced texture to the palate. However some were more unsuccessful, a mixed leaf and goat’s cheese combination on soda bread was disappointing as it led to an overpowering taste and dry texture in the mouth.

The desserts weren’t overly fussy; tasty but predictable.

Overall I had a pleasant and satisfactory experience, this along with the attentive and personable staff left me with no complaints.
